Articles: Turning Points schools

3 middle schools take a hit in “highly qualified” teachers, by Sophia Tareen, in the Oregonian, October 28, 2004.
Called by a school principal “the bible for middle school,” Turning Points practices have led to an increase in high quality, personalized learning. Budget cutbacks can cause a drop in the percentage of “highly qualified” teachers in specific content areas in Turning Points schools. Personalization can result in teachers working beyond their specialties.

Starting over at the middle, by Shari Rudavsky, in the Boston Sunday Globe, May 4, 2003.
Lead article in the Education section looks at a Turning Points middle school, Roosevelt MS in New Bedford, MA, as it leaves its old junior high status and takes on the more personalized, child-focused approach of a middle school.

Team Roosevelt: City middle school builds success, community through teacher partnerships, by Christina Connelly, in the New Bedford, MA, Standard-Times, April 15, 2003.
Feature article chronicles the introduction of a New Bedford middle school where there had been only junior high schools. It cites Turning Points and points to statistics and practices as evidence of a remarkable success to be emulated as other local junior highs convert to the middle school model.

Opening Remarks at the National Turning Points Leadership Conference, by Dan French, Executive Director of CCE, February 6, 2002.
The remarks delineate where most public schools have been, as well as the more relevant direction that many schools are now headed in with the help of leading educators associated with Turning Points. This vision of enlightened schools applies as well to other CCE programs.
