The Coach

Central to the model of school reform in all CCE networks is the coach, an external facilitator of change. CCE coaches bring to a school their knowledge of the content and process of school reform. Coaches serve several roles that those inside the school cannot serve: they bring an outside perspective to internal issues and challenges; they advocate for the school with the district, state, and other key organizations; and they have more flexibility to support professional development and create networks with other schools.

CCE employs twenty coaches supporting approximately sixty schools in New England. Coaches may assist teachers in setting standards, developing curricula, promoting school-wide habits of mind, looking collaboratively at student work, conducting peer observations, collecting data about student performance, and scheduling for longer learning blocks. For a detailed look at coaching, read The Role of the Coach at CCE.

Check out the School Change Blog.

CCE researchers are engaged in ongoing studies on the roles and effectiveness of coaches.

Tools for Schools - is a proprietary site where CCE coaches share successful tools they have found or created for use in the schools where they coach. It is an evolving, growing site. Coaches are encouraged to use and to contribute to Tools. Log-in authorization required.
